Developing your intuition can awaken your desires and help turn your dreams into reality.

Intuition is knowledge which is gained in some way that doesn't involve the five senses. It is also described as a sixth sense, a gut feeling or instinctively receiving information. Intuition is not a process that most people have control over or one which uses common sense, reasoning or logic.

Is Having Intuition a Natural Process?

Although some people believe that having intuition is unusual or evil, it should not be thought of as mysterious or dangerous. Intuition is a natural thought process which has been supported by many scientists, psychiatrists and philosophers. Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, once said that he would have preferred to study psychic research rather than psychoanalysis.

Philosopher Albert Schweitzer was quoted as saying, "that to live in a deeper reality, one had to experience extraordinary perception." One of the most famous people to study intuition was Edgar Cayce. He was the first to refer to being psychic as "a natural process and an extension of our conscious and unconscious mind."

Where Does Intuition Come From?

Some people believe intuition is knowledge which was gained through past experiences and patterns and stored in the subconscious mind. That means although they may have this information, they are not always aware of what they know. Others believe they receive intuitive information from spirit guides or loved ones who have died and are watching over them.

Although extensive scientific research has been done on intuition, there are conflicting reports as to whether or not it actually exists. In a poll conducted by The Gallup Organization in 2005, 41 percent of those polled said they believed in intuition. Most viewed intuition the same way they viewed God - as something which could not be seen but was sensed and existed to provide guidance.

How Can You Connect to Your Intuition?

Messages from intuition are often received as symbols, feelings or pieces of information. These messages can be combined with other knowledge and used to help make decisions or solve problems.

Most people find it easiest to tap into their intuition when they are meditating or extremely relaxed. One of the most common times to receive messages from intuition is right before you fall asleep. Often people believe the intuitive messages they receive during this time are dreams and dismiss or forget what they "saw." Sometimes it is helpful to keep a notebook by your bed to jot down any visions received during this time.

Messages from one's intuition can also be received using tools such as a pendulum, Tarot cards or runes. While these methods require more practice than meditation, they provide more accurate and detailed information.

Developing intuition is one of the greatest gifts a person can give his or herself. It can increase sensitivities, protect from harm and awaken dreams and desires.
